By: Romi Sussman (www.RomiSussman.com)Location is everything. Well, ok, it’s not everything…but when it comes to planning a bar or bat mitzvah, it is important. You need to consider many things in order to find the right location. Along with your budget, your travel logistics from ceremony to party and your level of involvement, you’ll need to consider these ideas:
1. Size of Your Party – Even if you find the perfect location, it’s only perfect for the number of people they say will fit there. If you want to have dancing, but you cram 200 people into a room that fits 100, then your dancing, and your freedom of movement, will be severely limited. You must make your guest list and consider how many people to expect before setting out to look at sites.
2. Exotic and Interesting – There are oodles of unusual places to set a party. Many museums will open their doors in the evening for a party, as will some zoos, magic show houses, and the like. Even a rose garden or a nature reserve could be a lovely location for an outdoor affair. Consider off-the-beaten-path options and open yourself up for creative ideas. You never know what you’ll discover.
3. Keep It Simple – There’s always the option of keeping the bar or bat mitzvah simple and doing something closer to home. Perhaps your yard is large enough to host an afternoon luncheon for the honoree; maybe one of your friends would let you use their yard. A bar or bat mitzvah is an exciting time – but it doesn’t have to be an outrageously expensive one. Consider options that don’t cost as much, but that can be just as meaningful for family and friends.
